Man Charged Over Glastonbury Explosion

A 35-year-old man has been charged following an explosion and fire in a state forest at Glastonbury, near Gympie, Queensland, on August 12. No injuries were reported.

Queensland Police said officers attended the area near the intersection of Glastonbury Creek Road and Gympie Woolooga Road shortly before 6 p.m. after an unknown object exploded, causing fire and smoke. A man was reportedly seen leaving the scene, while the fire had been extinguished before police arrived.

Following investigations, police arrested a Deception Bay man at an address in Widgee. He was charged with possessing a restricted weapon, described by police as a pipe bomb, and dangerous conduct with a weapon. Police opposed bail, and the man was due to appear in Gympie Magistrates Court on August 13.
