Police Urge Brisbane Drivers to Secure Cars

The Queensland Police Service is urging Brisbane motorists to take practical steps to reduce the risk of vehicle theft, including parking securely, locking vehicles and using additional anti-theft devices.

Police recommend using locked garages or gated off-street parking where possible and positioning vehicles within security-camera coverage. Motorists are also encouraged to consider steering-wheel locks, pedal locks, wheel clamps, alarms, immobilisers and GPS tracking devices.

QPS advised drivers to keep vehicles locked even when parked at home or left unattended briefly, store keys out of sight and use signal-blocking pouches for keyless entry fobs. Valuables should also be removed from vehicles, and suspicious activity reported to police.

As of August 9, Brisbane police had charged 962 people with 1,474 vehicle theft offences under Operation Yankee Forge.
