Gold Coast Driver Charged After Pursuit

A 35-year-old Oxley man has been charged following alleged dangerous driving incidents across the Gold Coast on August 3, Queensland Police said. The incidents reportedly involved a vehicle travelling through Surfers Paradise, Molendinar and Ashmore.

Police allege occupants of a white LDV D90 station wagon were involved in an attempted unlawful entry of a motor vehicle before the vehicle was monitored by POLAIR. The alleged driver reportedly mounted footpaths and forced pedestrians to take evasive action, while a passenger allegedly stood through the sunroof and threw ignited flares onto roads in Southport.

The vehicle stopped on The Crescent at Ashmore at about 7.10pm, when the occupants allegedly fled on foot. A passenger was arrested at the scene, while the driver was located shortly afterward at a Mulyan Place address with assistance from the dog squad. Police allege methylamphetamine was found during a search.

The man has been charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and one count each of driving under the influence of an intoxicating substance, possessing dangerous drugs, obstructing police and driving while disqualified. He is scheduled to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on August 4. Police investigations remain ongoing under reference numbers QP2601503007 and QP2601503013.
