A 48-year-old woman has been charged with serious animal cruelty after Queensland police investigated the alleged mistreatment of 119 animals at a rural property in Tara.

Police attended the property on July 24 and assessed the welfare of the animals, which included 32 dogs, 18 goats, 16 cats, 38 chickens, six budgies, three quails, a parrot, a dove, three guinea pigs and a pet rat.

The animals received immediate care, with arrangements made for their ongoing welfare. The Tara woman is due to appear in Chinchilla Magistrates Court on August 20.

Queensland Police said investigations remain ongoing.
