Man Charged After Mount Sheridan Shooting

Queensland Police have charged a 28-year-old man after a police-involved shooting in Mount Sheridan, near Cairns, on July 25. A civilian woman was also wounded during the incident, and both the man and woman were taken to Cairns Base Hospital for treatment.

Police said officers were called to reports of an armed robbery at a property on Pumila Close and an attempted armed robbery on Benjamina Street at about 5:10 p.m. Officers later located the man near the roundabout connecting Hardy Road, Foster Road and Lizard Street.

According to police, officers attempted to engage with the man before he was shot on Foster Road. Officers provided first aid to both people at the scene.

The man was refused police bail and charged with multiple offences, including wilful damage, entering a dwelling, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle, attempted robbery and going armed to cause fear. He is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on July 27.

The circumstances of the shooting are being investigated by the Queensland Police Service’s Ethical Standards Command, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.
