A Queensland police officer was shot in the leg while responding to a welfare check in Yengarie on July 24, Queensland Police said. The officer was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Police attended a property on Horizon Court at about 5:45 p.m. after receiving a welfare-related report. Officers attempted to speak with a man at the address before the officer was injured by gunfire.

Police remained at the property and continued efforts to engage with the man. Authorities asked members of the public to avoid the area while the incident remained ongoing.
