Two men in South-East Queensland are facing severe penalties after being caught in high-speed incidents this June, as part of the Queensland Police Service’s Operation Interpose aimed at curbing dangerous driving behaviors.

In separate incidents, a 45-year-old from Burpengary and a 19-year-old from Redcliffe were intercepted by the Road Policing Taskforce for exceeding the speed limits by more than 40km/h. The older driver was fined $1,919 and handed a six-month license suspension after being clocked at 108km/h in a 60km/h zone on Deception Bay Road. Similarly, the teenage motorcyclist received the same fine and suspension duration for speeding at 159km/h in a 90km/h zone on the Houghton Highway.

Senior Sergeant Paul Kelly, Officer in Charge of the Road Policing Task Force, expressed disappointment at the continued reckless driving, emphasizing the zero-tolerance policy for life-threatening behaviors on roads. “At these speeds, the consequences of a crash will be catastrophic. Dangerous driving is a choice, and offenders should expect to be held accountable,” Kelly stated.

The Queensland Police Service reaffirms its dedication to reducing road fatalities through high-visibility patrols and strict enforcement of traffic laws. However, they also stress that law enforcement alone is insufficient to deter all dangerous driving behaviors. The public is urged to adhere to road safety rules to prevent accidents and fatalities.
