South Brisbane police have issued 145 infringement notices during a comprehensive traffic safety operation this past weekend, targeting dangerous driving behaviors across Brisbane’s south. The operation, dubbed Operation Xray Moffatt, saw officers conducting over 2,000 random breath tests and 52 roadside drug tests on Friday. The day’s efforts led to 11 charges for drink driving and seven for drug driving. Additionally, 149 traffic infringement notices were issued in areas including Upper Mount Gravatt, Kuraby, and Tingalpa. Continuing the traffic enforcement into Saturday, the Bayside Patrol Group, together with the Capalaba Tactical Crime Squad, carried out Operation Yankee Interpose. This initiative aimed at enhancing road safety through high visibility and engagement with road users. The joint team conducted 613 random breath tests, which included a significant incident where a 36-year-old failed to provide a breath test multiple times. With a blood alcohol concentration of 0.238 per cent, he now faces charges including medium-range drink driving and is scheduled to appear in Wynnum Magistrates Court on July 28. Other notable cases from the operations included a 45-year-old Buccan man, charged with unlicensed driving and driving while a relevant drug was present, after testing positive in a roadside drug test. He is expected to appear in Richlands Magistrates Court on August 28. These operations are part of a broader initiative by the Queensland Police Service to reduce the number of lives lost on roads, emphasizing that road safety is a shared responsibility. Motorists are reminded that driving under the influence, speeding, or driving while distracted are perilous behaviors that will not be tolerated.
