The First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, recently participated in an event focused on promoting accessibility in communication. The event, titled “When You Can Spread Your Wings,” marked the beginning of National Barrier-Free Week, a campaign aimed at advocating for accessibility. During the event, Zelenska highlighted the importance of removing stigmas surrounding disabilities and promoting inclusivity in society. Various organizations and sectors, including the NGO Barrier-Free and UNICEF Ukraine, came together to support the initiative. Zelenska emphasized the need for respectful communication, urging individuals to prioritize the person over any labels or stereotypes. The event also featured a video lecture titled “When You Can Communicate Without Barriers,” designed to educate media professionals, educators, and activists on inclusive communication practices. The campaign, “Barrier-Free Means When You Can,” is a collaborative effort between the Ukrainian government, UNICEF, and the NGO Barrier-Free, with support from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The event brought together representatives from different sectors, including media, business, architecture, and mental health support, to promote a culture of equality and mutual respect. Participants encouraged society to actively contribute to building a more inclusive environment for all individuals. Through initiatives like these, Ukraine aims to create a more inclusive and supportive society for people of all abilities.
