European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, along with other political group leaders, is set to visit Dublin as part of the preparations for the upcoming Irish presidency of the Council of the EU. This visit, scheduled for Tuesday, 23 June, aims to set the groundwork for Ireland’s pivotal role in shaping the Union’s agenda starting from 1 July.

During their visit, the delegation will engage with key Irish officials including President Catherine Connolly, Taoiseach Micheál Martin, and various government ministers. Meetings are planned at the Houses of the Oireachtas with important figures such as the Ceann Comhairle and the Cathaoirleach. The discussions will focus on critical issues such as the One Europe, One Market roadmap, the next EU long-term budget, and broader themes concerning EU values and security.

President Metsola highlighted the significance of this visit, stating, “Ireland takes on the Council Presidency at a defining moment for Europe. Together, the Council and the European Parliament can turn ambition into action – delivering on competitiveness, strengthening our security, and building a long-term budget fit for a new era, while remaining true to the values that define our Union.” Following their discussions, a joint press conference with Metsola and Martin will be held, which will also be broadcast live for wider accessibility.
