Zelenskyy Acknowledges Heroic Response

In a solemn visit to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy personally thanked the emergency services for their rapid response following a severe overnight attack by Russian forces on June 15, 2026. The attack, which involved a combination of 70 missiles and 611 drones, targeted various Ukrainian cities including Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro, causing widespread devastation.

During his visit to the historical site, which suffered significant damage including fires in the Dormition Cathedral and the Mystetskyi Arsenal, President Zelenskyy addressed the efforts of over 140 rescuers and 40 units of equipment that worked tirelessly for more than five hours to mitigate the aftermath. The President expressed his gratitude towards everyone involved in the emergency response and emphasized the deliberate targeting of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and surrounding areas by Russian drones.

The consequences of the overnight attacks were severe, with reports of 11 fatalities and 53 injuries across the country, and specific casualties in Kyiv including five deaths and 35 injuries. Zelenskyy conveyed his deep condolences to the families of the victims and stressed the importance of ongoing communication with international partners to address the ramifications of the attacks.

In a compelling appeal, President Zelenskyy highlighted the need for a unified international stance against the aggression, urging global leaders and organizations to amplify their voices and actions. He tasked Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic corps to intensify their engagements to bolster Ukraine’s defense and increase international pressure on Russia. “We need a just response to this Russian strike. Thank you to everyone who stands with Ukraine,” declared Zelenskyy, signaling a resilient and fortified response to the ongoing conflict.
