Ukraine Intensifies Sanctions, Strengthens Defense

In a series of decisive actions on June 12, 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy imposed new sanctions on Russian propaganda outlets and judges responsible for unlawful rulings against Ukrainian journalists, activists, and politicians. This move, enacted through a decree following a decision by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, targets individuals and entities undermining the sovereignty and security of Ukraine.

Further bolstering national defense, President Zelenskyy announced enhanced contractual terms for infantry personnel, with contracts up to 24 months and increased salaries averaging 300,000 hryvnias for those on the front line. These measures aim to improve the financial stability and operational effectiveness of the Ukrainian army amidst ongoing conflicts.

In addition, President Zelenskyy met with Latvian Defense Minister Raivis Melnis to discuss the implementation of the Drone Deal and ongoing support for Ukraine’s journey toward European Union integration.
