Police in Toowoomba have charged a 26-year-old local man following a serious hit-and-run incident that occurred in January 2021, leading to severe injuries for another driver. This arrest marks a significant breakthrough in a case that has been under investigation for over five years. The incident took place around 2 AM on Baker Street at Darling Heights when a Toyota Landcruiser collided with a Toyota Camry sedan. The Camry’s driver, a 38-year-old man from Rangeville, was seriously injured when he was dragged along the road as he attempted to exit his vehicle. The Landcruiser allegedly tried to flee the scene while still connected to the damaged Camry. Thanks to a tip from the public, police were able to locate the Landcruiser on April 8, 2026, and subsequently initiated Operation Xray Divergence. The operation focused on piecing together the events of that night, leading to the recent charges against the suspect. He faces charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm and leaving the scene of an incident without obtaining help. Denied police bail, the accused was scheduled to appear before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on May 8. Detective Inspector Renée Garske expressed gratitude towards the public and media for their assistance in the investigation, emphasizing the relentless pursuit of justice by the police. The Queensland Police Service reiterated its commitment to improving road safety and reducing casualties, highlighting that enforcement alone is not enough to curb dangerous driving behaviors. Community members with any additional information are encouraged to contact Policelink or Crime Stoppers to assist in ongoing and future investigations. Post navigation Surfers Paradise Assault Appeal
