In a series of arrests on May 7, Cairns police apprehended individuals linked to various violent and theft-related crimes, according to the Queensland Police Service.

The first incident involved a 40-year-old man who was arrested after allegedly robbing an Earlville business on Balaclava Road. Reports state that he threatened an employee with a knife to obtain cash and cigarettes. Police apprehended him near the scene with the alleged stolen items in his possession. He faces charges of armed robbery, obstructing police, and assault and was denied bail, pending a court appearance at the Cairns Magistrates Court on May 8.

In a separate incident in Westcourt, a 31-year-old woman was detained after police found her at a residence on Saint George Close. She is accused of assaulting a 26-year-old man on May 5, during which the victim’s vehicle was stolen. The victim reportedly required surgical intervention for his injuries. The woman is charged with robbery in company with violence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and unlicensed driving. She has also been denied bail and is scheduled to appear in court on the same day.

Additionally, a 16-year-old boy was taken into custody following his connection to a series of break-ins and vehicle thefts dating back to February 2024. Located at a Meranti Close address, the teenager faces 28 charges, including two counts of entering premises and one of unlawful vehicle use. Denied bail, he is set to appear before the Cairns Children’s Court.
