Queensland Police have recently completed a major operation targeting illegal hooning activities in Brisbane and its surrounding areas, resulting in multiple charges and vehicle seizures. Dubbed Operation X-Ray Antler, the initiative took place over the long weekend from May 2 to May 3, 2026, and focused on disrupting a large gathering of vehicles involved in dangerous driving behaviors.

During the operation, police forces from North Brisbane District, South Brisbane District, and Ipswich, along with Tactical Crime Squad units, collaborated to address over 30 vehicles that congregated for an alleged hooning event. Of these, four vehicles were identified actively participating in hooning, leading to their drivers being charged with various offenses including dangerous drug possession, vehicle theft, and unlicensed driving. Notably, two Ford Falcons, one blue and one silver, were seized.

The police efforts also extended to the issuance of 66 traffic infringement notices, with violations ranging from spectating hooning activities without reasonable excuse to exceeding speed limits. A significant incident involved a vehicle that performed hooning maneuvers on the Gateway Bridge but was promptly intercepted by a Highway Patrol unit, preventing further offenses.

This operation is part of a broader strategy by the Queensland Police Service to combat the persistent issue of hooning, which has been linked to several serious incidents, including one in March where a vehicle caught fire during a hooning activity, seriously injuring four occupants. The crackdown reflects the police’s zero-tolerance policy towards reckless driving that jeopardizes public safety.

As investigations continue, particularly into the events on the Gateway Bridge, the police urge the community to report any suspicious hooning activities. The public is reminded that engaging in or supporting such dangerous behaviors can lead to severe legal consequences, including imprisonment, fines, and vehicle impoundment. Community cooperation is essential in helping maintain safe roads and preventing future incidents.
