On Monday, April 20, 2026, Latvia is set to join the Artemis Accords, an international agreement for the peaceful use of outer space, with a formal signing ceremony scheduled at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The event, to be hosted by NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, will also see the participation of Dace Melbārde, Latvia’s Minister for Education and Science, Jānis Beķeris, chargé d’affaires at the Latvian Embassy to the United States, and Jacob Helberg, the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs.

The ceremony, marking Latvia as the 62nd nation to sign the accords, will occur in the James E. Webb Memorial Auditorium located in the Mary W. Jackson building. Initiated in 2020 during the first Trump Administration, the Artemis Accords were established by the United States, NASA, and the State Department alongside seven founding nations. These accords aim to foster cooperation in civil space exploration, enhancing safety, transparency, and coordination on the Moon, Mars, and beyond.

Media wishing to cover this milestone event are required to RSVP by 3 p.m., Friday, April 17, to NASA’s specified email. The agency’s media accreditation policy can be found online. This event reinforces international cooperation in space exploration, underlining the growing global interest in lunar and other extraterrestrial missions.
