In a heartwarming display of gratitude, 14-year-old Kaiden Harris, who suffered life-altering injuries in a motorbike accident, made a special visit to thank the first responders at Burdell Ambulance Station in Townsville. This event marked a poignant moment in his recovery journey since the accident on September 29, 2025.

Kaiden’s ordeal began during a routine ride on the Salt Flats near North Short Boulevard, Bushland Beach, which ended tragically with a severe crash. He sustained multiple injuries, including a crushed spinal cord and internal injuries, which led to paralysis from the waist down despite undergoing a nine-hour surgery. After initially spending a week at Townsville ICU, Kaiden was transferred to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane for extensive recovery and rehabilitation spanning over 100 days.

During his visit, Kaiden expressed his immense appreciation for the calm and professional demeanor of the paramedics and officers who provided immediate aid and comfort during his critical moments. Constable James Pegg and Advanced Care Paramedic Chimaraoke Okoro, among the first on the scene, shared their perspectives on the emergency efforts and the profound impact of reuniting with Kaiden post-recovery.

Kaiden’s parents, Kristy and Glen Harris, also highlighted their son’s incredible resilience and determination throughout his rehabilitation process. They emphasized the importance of safety gear in preventing even more severe outcomes and expressed a desire to raise awareness about safety precautions for young riders.

Kaiden continues to adapt to his new lifestyle, participating in wheelchair basketball and engaging in community activities, demonstrating his unwavering spirit and determination to move forward.
