Two men have been charged following a significant police operation on the Gold Coast that uncovered a cache of 3D-printed firearms and ammunition. The arrests were made by detectives from the South Eastern Region’s Taskforce Maxima and the Organised Crime Gangs Group, with support from the Firearm and Cannabis Team (FACT).

The operation culminated on Saturday, March 28, when police stopped a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross at Surfers Paradise. A thorough search of the vehicle revealed a black plastic container in the boot containing 34 3D-printed ‘Glock’ style handguns, 800 rounds of 9mm ammunition, multiple handgun and rifle magazines, plastic rifle trigger guard assemblies, and a hard drive with blueprints for manufacturing 3D firearms.

The driver, a 43-year-old man from West End, and his companion, a 39-year-old man from Kangaroo Point, were arrested and taken to Southport Watchhouse. Further searches were conducted at properties in West End and Kangaroo Point as part of ongoing investigations.

Detective Acting Inspector Adrian Sala expressed concern over the use of 3D printing technology to create dangerous and unlawful firearms, emphasizing continued intelligence-driven operations to keep these weapons off the streets. He urged the public to report any information about illegal weapons manufacturing. The charged men face multiple offenses, including possession and distribution of blueprint material for firearm manufacture and unlawful possession of more than ten category D/E/H/R weapons. They were denied police bail and are scheduled to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court.

Authorities encourage anyone with information on illegal weapons to contact Policelink or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
