In a significant meeting held in Dallas on March 27, 2026, Olena Zelenska, the First Lady of Ukraine, engaged with prominent Texas business leaders and philanthropists to discuss ways to support Ukrainians amid ongoing conflicts. The event, moderated by David J. Kramer, Executive Director of the George W. Bush Institute, provided a platform for discussing critical humanitarian initiatives.

During the meeting, Zelenska highlighted the severe impacts of Russian aggression on her country and outlined the efforts of the Olena Zelenska Foundation in mitigating these effects. “Our foundation collaborates with partners across more than 35 countries, focusing on vital projects such as equipping shelters in educational institutions, constructing homes for large foster families, and establishing psychosocial support spaces for youth,” she explained. These initiatives aim to ensure that children and families in Ukraine can live in conditions that foster dignity and development.

The gathering also served as an occasion for Zelenska to express gratitude towards former U.S. President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush for their sustained support of Ukraine. She reminisced about President Bush’s 2008 visit to Ukraine before the Bucharest NATO Summit, where he advocated for Ukraine’s sovereign right to define its future, including potential NATO membership—an idea he believed would strengthen global security and policy within the Alliance. “History has proven him right,” Zelenska remarked, emphasizing the ongoing need for security to underpin freedom and peace.
