Sunshine Coast police have successfully charged 13 individuals with a total of 31 offenses in the first two weeks of Operation Yankee Forge, a robust initiative aimed at curbing high-harm crimes across the region. The operation has been particularly focused on addressing unlawful use, robbery, and unlawful entry offenses. A significant arrest occurred on March 9 when detectives from the Noosa Criminal Investigation Branch, in collaboration with the Child Protection and Investigation Unit, executed a search warrant at a Noosaville motel. The search led to the discovery of $6500 in cash and a handgun hidden in a backpack. An 18-year-old man from Sunshine Beach was charged with multiple counts related to unlawful entry and is currently held in custody, awaiting his court appearance on May 11. Further illustrating the operation’s reach, a stolen black Nissan Navara was recovered undamaged on March 13, hours after it was reported missing from Peregian Beach. A 19-year-old from Burpengary faces charges including unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of dangerous drugs, among others. His court date is set for April 2. Detective Acting Inspector Kerri Della-Vedova praised the early results of Operation Yankee Forge, attributing them to the concerted efforts of various police units working in tandem. “This teamwork ensures a comprehensive and targeted response, reinforcing our commitment to safeguarding the community and holding offenders accountable,” she commented. The operation is not only enhancing community safety but also reinforcing the message that property crimes will be met with swift and decisive action.
