A serious traffic collision in New Farm has led to multiple charges against a Greenslopes man, following an incident that left a woman critically injured. The Fortitude Valley Criminal Investigation Branch is actively seeking witnesses and additional footage to aid in their ongoing inquiry into the crash that occurred on March 4.

At approximately 12:33 PM, a grey Hyundai i30, driven by a 39-year-old man, reportedly veered into oncoming traffic on Merthyr Road and collided with a blue Maserati. The Hyundai’s passenger, a woman in her twenties, sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition. Meanwhile, the Maserati’s occupants, a couple from Yeronga, suffered minor injuries and received treatment at the scene.

Authorities have charged the Hyundai driver with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm, among other counts including possession of a knife in a public place and carrying an exposed weapon. He made his initial court appearance on March 5 and is due back in court on April 20.

The Queensland Police Service urges anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage of the incident, particularly of the Hyundai with registration 985LBL prior to the crash, to come forward. Public contributions can be made through Policelink or anonymously via Crime Stoppers.

The investigation into this distressing incident continues, as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the tragic collision. Community members are reminded to report any relevant information to assist in the ongoing efforts to ensure public safety.
