A significant operation called “Operation Yankee Forge” has been initiated by the Queensland Police Service in the Southern Region, focusing on reducing crime rates and addressing high-harm offenses. This new strategy was launched in Brisbane by Acting Commissioner Brett Pointing APM and will span over six months.

The operation targets key areas including Ipswich, Darling Downs, and South West districts, concentrating on crimes such as unlawful use, robbery, and unlawful entry. The initiative aims to be highly visible and will involve a mix of prevention, disruption, and investigative efforts. Key resources, including the State Flying Squad, Dog Squad, and Public Safety Response Team, will support local police units.

Assistant Commissioner Matthew Vanderbyl, speaking at the Highfields Police Station, emphasized the operation’s grounding in previous successes and community-specific strategies. He noted that the approach would adapt based on real-time intelligence and crime trends, blending high-visibility and covert tactics to minimize crime impact effectively. Community engagement and proactive measures like wandings and bail compliance checks will be integral to the operation.

Vanderbyl also highlighted the critical role of community vigilance and cooperation in combating crime, urging residents to report suspicious activities and adopt preventative measures. The operation is seen as a step forward in strengthening public confidence in the police force and its commitment to safety and justice in Queensland.
