Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska, recently toured the Khmelnytskyi region to evaluate advancements in the School Nutrition Reform. During her visits to various educational institutions, she observed significant improvements in kitchen facilities and dining halls, essential components in fostering a healthy eating culture among students.

The reform, aimed at cultivating good nutrition habits and raising a health-conscious generation, has seen over a dozen schools modernize their infrastructure. This initiative is supported by state subventions and co-financed by local budgets, blending resources for optimal outcomes. Zelenska encouraged other regions to leverage this model, highlighting its efficacy in enhancing children’s well-being even amidst challenging times.

Highlighting the broader impact of these reforms, Zelenska participated in the “School Food Fest: Healthy with Roots” festival. This event, part of the culinary hub developed under the School Nutrition Reform, included masterclasses from professional chefs and interactive activities for children and parents. The festival not only showcased traditional and modern recipes but also emphasized the educational aspect of nutrition, aiming to instill lifelong healthy habits in young participants.

Over 300 cooks have been trained at the culinary hub in less than a year, underscoring the reform’s practical impact. Zelenska’s visit underscores a commitment to health and education, reflecting a vision where community involvement and proper nutrition education can lead to a thriving, healthy future generation in Ukraine.
