Brett Pointing APM has been named the new Commissioner of the Queensland Police Service (QPS), set to assume the role on February 21, 2026. He succeeds Commissioner Steve Gollschewski, who is retiring a day before.

Pointing, a seasoned professional with over 40 years of service in QPS, has a rich background in various high-stakes roles, including Deputy Commissioner, District Officer on the Gold Coast, and disaster recovery coordinator in Bundaberg and North Burnett. Notably, he has led significant operations against Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs and initiatives for preventing domestic and family violence.

His extensive experience isn’t limited to state police duties; Pointing has also served at the national level as a Deputy Commissioner in the Australian Federal Police. Recently, he played a pivotal role in the 100 Day Review of QPS, contributing to strategic recommendations that are crucial for the service’s ongoing reform.

Outgoing Commissioner Gollschewski praised Pointing’s capabilities and leadership qualities, expressing full confidence in his successor’s ability to lead QPS. He described Pointing as a transformative leader with profound insights into both state and national policing operations.

As he prepares to take over the reins, Pointing has committed to focusing on community safety, supporting front-line officers, and optimizing resource allocation to enhance the effectiveness of the police service. “I am deeply humbled to have this opportunity, policing has always been in my blood,” said Pointing, emphasizing his strong personal ties and commitment to the Queensland Police.
