In a significant crackdown on illegal weapons and drug trafficking, Queensland Police have apprehended 64 individuals for 119 offenses. Dubbed Operation Paralax, the six-month investigation culminated in multiple raids and targeted operations across the South West region, particularly in the communities of St George, Dirranbandi, and Mungindi. The operation, led by detectives from the St George Criminal Investigation Branch with support from general duties officers and the South West Tactical Crime Squad, involved the execution of 14 search warrants. Authorities successfully seized an Anschutz 1416 .22 rifle, components of a category H pistol, six knives, and a variety of drugs including methylamphetamine, cannabis, and GHB. Additional strategies used in the operation included targeted vehicle intercepts and random drug testing, amplifying the crackdown’s scope. Among the arrested was a 26-year-old man from St George, caught during a routine patrol on January 6. The intercept of his vehicle led to the discovery of methylamphetamines and drug paraphernalia. Scheduled to appear before the St George Magistrates Court on February 17, he faces multiple charges, including possession of dangerous drugs. In a separate incident on January 12, another local man was detained and subsequently offered a drug diversion for possessing methylamphetamines after being stopped by police. Further escalations occurred on January 17 when a 20-year-old was charged for driving under the influence of drugs during a targeted roadside operation. The Queensland Police have urged the public to come forward with any relevant information that could assist in curbing local crime, emphasizing the role community cooperation plays in these enforcement efforts. Individuals can report suspicious activities anonymously via Crime Stoppers or through the Policelink service. Post navigation Chaos Unfolds in Coorparoo Squad Cracks Down in Brisbane
