In a significant diplomatic engagement, the Presidents of Ukraine and Lithuania convened to discuss bolstering Ukraine’s energy system amidst relentless Russian assaults. The official meeting, held during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s working visit to Lithuania, took place against the backdrop of the 163rd anniversary of the January Uprising and a Lublin Triangle summit, which also included the Polish President.

The focus of the discussions was the severe impact of Russian military actions on Ukraine’s civilian and energy infrastructures, highlighted by recent attacks involving 370 drones and 21 missiles in a single night. In response to the escalating situation, Lithuania has committed to supporting Ukrainian cities and communities by donating nearly one hundred generators, a gesture of solidarity acknowledged with gratitude by President Zelenskyy. Further talks covered Ukraine’s needs for enhanced energy resilience and air defense capabilities.

Additionally, the leaders explored avenues for deepening military cooperation, including the implementation of joint defense projects and a Lithuanian proposal to establish a weapons export platform in Vilnius. Discussions also touched upon Lithuania’s forthcoming contributions to the PURL initiative and cooperation within the SAFE instrument. On the diplomatic front, President Zelenskyy shared updates on the ongoing efforts to secure a dignified peace, including recent trilateral meetings in Abu Dhabi with Ukrainian, American, and Russian delegates. He reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to ending the conflict through diplomatic means.
