A new Police Beat has been inaugurated on Lowe Street in the heart of Nambour’s Central Business District, significantly enhancing the local law enforcement presence and community engagement, as announced by the Queensland Police Service (QPS). This strategic addition to Nambour’s policing infrastructure is expected to bolster public safety by facilitating faster and more effective responses to local incidents. Staffed by a full-time officer, the facility is equipped to host various specialist units like the District Crime Prevention Unit, Criminal Investigation Branch, and the Child Protection and Investigation Unit when needed. Superintendent Craig Hawkins of the Sunshine Coast District highlighted the dual benefits of the new facility, which will serve both the community and support operations at the main Nambour station. He emphasized the importance of the Police Beat in enhancing police visibility and engagement: “The officer stationed here will patrol the area on foot, fostering a safer environment through direct interaction with businesses and residents, thereby reinforcing our commitment to community safety.” Deputy Commissioner Mark Kelly added that the Police Beat is designed to meet the specific needs of a population of about 20,000, promising a more substantial and visible police presence in the CBD. This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen community relations and ensure that police can quickly address safety concerns as they arise. Residents are encouraged to engage with local police by reporting suspicious activities or crime information through Policelink or anonymously via Crime Stoppers. This community-oriented approach aims to build trust and cooperation between the police and the public, ensuring a safer environment for all.
