In a significant crackdown on drug and weapon-related crimes, four individuals have been arrested in Townsville under Operation Xray Redshift, as announced by the Queensland Police. The operation, which concluded on January 13, targeted the widespread distribution and supply of narcotics including methylamphetamine, cocaine, and cannabis. The Major Organised Crime Squad (MOCS) Northern, spearheading the operation, executed search warrants at an Alligator Creek property and a related vehicle. The raids led to the seizure of considerable quantities of drugs: 1kg of cocaine, 108kg of cannabis, nearly 8kg of methylamphetamine, and over $400,000 in cash. Additionally, law enforcement confiscated three Category B rifles, a Category D semi-automatic rifle, a Category H handgun, along with several magazines and rounds of ammunition. The arrests bring forth severe charges against the involved parties. A 24-year-old man from Townsville faces multiple counts including trafficking and supplying dangerous drugs, and unlawful possession of weapons. He remains in custody, with a court appearance scheduled for March 6 at the Townsville Magistrates Court. Similarly, other accused, ranging in age from 24 to 59, face various charges and are set for court appearances in the upcoming months. Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew Bye of MOCS Northern emphasized the operation’s impact, noting the significant benefits of removing such serious offenders from the streets. Bye highlighted the detrimental effects of the narcotics involved on the community and affirmed ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes in the region. The successful operation marks a notable victory for local law enforcement in their continuous battle against drug trafficking and illegal weapon possession, aiming to ensure a safer environment for the Townsville community.
