In a disturbing incident on December 28, authorities responded to a small explosion at a Bracken Ridge shopping center, resulting in the arrest of a 12-year-old boy. The explosion, which took place around 1:30 pm in the public toilets of the center, activated the fire sprinkler system but fortunately did not cause any injuries.

Upon investigation, police discovered a small, homemade device that had been detonated, causing minor damage to the facility. Later that evening, police located and apprehended the juvenile at a local address. He was charged with entering premises with intent, damaging premises by explosion, and stealing items used to make the device.

The boy is scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Children’s Court on January 9, 2026. Authorities have confirmed that the incident was not related to terrorism and emphasized that there is no ongoing risk to the public.
