A high-stakes pursuit through South Brisbane culminated in the dramatic arrest of a 28-year-old New South Wales man last night. The suspect faces multiple charges, including dangerous driving and attempted armed robbery, following a series of perilous incidents. The Queensland Police Service (QPS) reported that the chase began around 9:30 PM after Polair spotted a silver BMW 318i driving erratically on Kessels Road in Nathan. The air unit tracked the vehicle as it sped through Sunnybank and Sunnybank Hills. Ground officers managed to halt the BMW using a tyre deflation device in Robertson by 10:57 PM. The pursuit didn’t end with the vehicle stop; the driver, armed with a knife, attempted to flee on foot. He soon tried to hijack an Audi A3 in a nearby shopping centre carpark, threatening its occupants, a man and a woman, who fortunately remained unharmed. Police apprehended the suspect inside the Audi after he presented a knife, leading to officers drawing their firearms and tasers. Despite the suspect’s violent resistance during the arrest, no serious injuries were reported. He was charged with eight crimes, including dangerous vehicle operation, armed robbery, and assaulting a police officer. The man was remanded in custody and is scheduled for a court appearance on January 27 at the Brisbane Magistrates Court. Authorities are urging anyone with footage of the incident, including dashcam or CCTV, to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
