In a significant cultural exchange, Olena Zelenska, the First Lady of Ukraine, inaugurated the Ukrainian Season in France on December 2, 2025. Joined by France’s First Lady Brigitte Macron, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, the event marks a four-month celebration of Ukrainian arts including cinema, music, literature, visual arts, and theater across various French cities. During the event, Zelenska highlighted the importance of cultural exchange, especially during challenging times like the current situation in Ukraine. “Our culture being appreciated abroad reassures us that we are not alone and that the values we are fighting to protect are recognized worldwide,” Zelenska expressed. This cultural diplomacy aims to foster understanding and build silent dialogues through the universal language of art. Additional collaborations were announced; 12 French educational institutions have joined the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies, and 15 museums will introduce Ukrainian-language audio guides at significant global landmarks. These initiatives underscore the deepening ties between the two nations, facilitated by entities such as the French Institute, the Ukrainian Institute, and both countries’ ministries of foreign affairs and culture. The Ukrainian Season in France is not just a showcase of cultural heritage but a testament to the resilient spirit of Ukraine and the strengthening bond with France, reinforcing the idea that knowledge and respect for cultural diversity can indeed transform challenging times into periods of mutual respect and understanding.
