On December 1, the World Health Organization (WHO) along with its partners commemorated World AIDS Day, emphasizing the necessity for global cooperation and the implementation of rights-based policies to eradicate AIDS by the year 2030. This year’s focus highlights the significant challenges and disruptions faced in the ongoing fight against AIDS, with over 40 million individuals currently living with HIV worldwide. Despite these challenges, WHO calls for reinforced efforts and strategies to reduce the alarming figures of 1.3 million new infections and 630,000 deaths recorded in 2024 alone. The global health body continues to advocate for enhanced accessibility to healthcare services, aiming to mitigate the spread of HIV while improving the quality of life for those affected. Through international collaboration and sustained funding, WHO remains committed to transforming the AIDS response into an effective, inclusive, and equitable movement, striving for a world free of AIDS within this decade.
