Officers from the Bundaberg Highway Patrol recently apprehended two men during routine patrols, highlighting ongoing concerns over drug and alcohol impairment on Queensland roads. A 55-year-old from Rockhampton and a 51-year-old from Kepnock face serious charges after being stopped in separate incidents this past week.

Early on the morning of November 10, a 51-year-old Kepnock man was stopped for a roadside breath test while driving a Mitsubishi Outlander on Walla Street, Bundaberg Central. He recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.146 percent, nearly three times over the legal limit, leading to a charge of drink driving. He is scheduled to appear in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court on December 11.

The following evening, a 55-year-old Rockhampton man was pulled over while driving a semi-trailer on the Bruce Highway in Booyal. The vehicle was allegedly traveling 20 km/h over the speed limit. The driver tested positive for methylamphetamine in a subsequent drug test and faces charges of drug driving and speeding. He is due in court on January 9, 2026.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) continues to emphasize the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, which severely impairs judgment, coordination, and perception, increasing the risk of fatal accidents. In their ongoing campaign to improve road safety, QPS stresses the importance of avoiding the ‘Fatal Five’ risky behaviors: speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing seatbelts, fatigue, and distraction.

With road safety being a shared responsibility, QPS urges drivers to stay informed and cautious to help reduce traffic-related fatalities and injuries on Queensland roads.
