European Parliament President Roberta Metsola visited Kyiv on September 17, 2025, where she reaffirmed the European Union’s steadfast support for Ukraine amid ongoing tensions with Russia. During her visit, she met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk, and addressed the Verkhovna Rada, reinforcing the EU’s commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and its path toward EU membership.

In discussions with President Zelenskyy, Metsola emphasized the importance of advancing Ukraine’s EU accession talks and highlighted the European Parliament’s support through sanctions targeting Russia. She stressed the EU’s commitment to using profits from frozen Russian assets for Ukraine’s defense and reconstruction efforts. “Europe will not back down in its support to Ukraine,” Metsola stated, underscoring the importance of weakening Russia’s war capabilities through coordinated sanctions and boosting Ukraine’s military and diplomatic standing.

Addressing the Verkhovna Rada, Metsola highlighted the EU’s financial support, noting the mobilization of 169 billion euros, including 63 billion in military aid. She announced initiatives like the Drone Alliance and the increase of investments in Ukraine’s defense industry. Metsola reiterated the EU’s stance on peace, emphasizing a resolution that respects Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence.
