A delegation from the OEACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly is set to visit Timor-Leste from September 15 to 17, 2025. Comprising 10 Members of the European Parliament, the delegation aims to strengthen political ties and support Timor-Leste’s efforts towards democracy and ASEAN membership.

The visit is led by Francisco Assis, president of the Delegation to the OEACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly, and includes meetings with key government and non-government stakeholders. These include Timor-Leste’s President José Manuel Ramos Horta and Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão. The delegation will also engage with civil society, religious, and business community leaders.

This official visit underscores the European Parliament’s commitment to supporting Timor-Leste, a young democracy navigating geopolitical challenges in the Indo-Pacific region. The visit also highlights Timor-Leste’s ratification of the Samoa Agreement and its progress towards joining the ASEAN.
