Police are urgently appealing for public assistance as they investigate a serious traffic accident that occurred in Paget, Mackay, on September 4. The incident involved a single vehicle, a grey Ford Falcon sedan, which veered off Broadsound Road and overturned.

The crash happened around 10:35 p.m. at the intersection of Farrellys Road. The 18-year-old male driver managed to escape the vehicle and was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in stable condition. However, his female passenger, also 18, was trapped in the wreckage and suffered serious life-threatening injuries. She was later transferred to the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital for further treatment.

Mackay’s Forensic Crash Unit is actively seeking witnesses who might have been traveling on Broadsound Road between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on the night of the accident. Authorities are particularly interested in any dashcam or CCTV footage that could provide crucial insights into the incident.

Police urge anyone with information to contact Policelink or provide anonymous tips via Crime Stoppers. The Queensland Police Service emphasizes the importance of adhering to road safety practices to prevent such accidents, highlighting the dangers of the ‘Fatal Five’ behaviors: speeding, impaired driving, failure to wear seatbelts, fatigue, and distraction.
