In a pivotal week for the European Parliament, key discussions and decisions are set to take place from July 14 to 20, 2025. The agenda is packed with significant items, including debates on the EU’s long-term budget and an assessment of Ukraine’s progress toward EU membership. The Budgets Committee will engage with Commissioner Piotr Serafin to discuss the new proposal for the post-2027 EU long-term budget, known as the multi-annual financial framework (MFF). This follows the proposal’s adoption by the Commission. The MFF, crucial for the EU’s financial planning, requires Parliament’s approval. On Tuesday, lead MEPs will outline Parliament’s priorities before the Commission’s proposal is presented. On another front, the Foreign Affairs Committee will evaluate Ukraine’s EU membership aspirations amidst the ongoing conflict with Russia. This assessment will cover Western support for Kyiv, domestic reforms, and the state of democracy in Ukraine. Additionally, MEPs from the Economic Affairs and Employment Committees will discuss the European Semester Package with Commission Vice-President Roxana Mînzatu and Economy Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis. These discussions will focus on socio-economic and fiscal policy recommendations for EU member states. Meanwhile, Danish ministers will outline their priorities as Denmark holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU until the end of the year.
