Detectives from the Tully Criminal Investigation Branch have apprehended five individuals in connection with a series of break-ins across the Cassowary Coast. The incidents, which occurred throughout June, have led to charges against several teenagers and an adult male.

Authorities allege that on June 12, a 14-year-old girl from Tully and a 15-year-old girl from Birkalla illegally entered a property on Curtis Street, making off with security cameras. Later that month, on June 25, the same girls, accompanied by another teenager, reportedly broke into a hotel on Butler Street. The two girls and a 14-year-old boy from Bilyana are being processed under the Youth Justice Act.

In a separate incident on June 21, a 16-year-old boy from Tully Heads is accused of breaking into a residence on McQuillen Street. He faces charges of entering and committing an indictable offense and is scheduled to appear in the Tully Children’s Court on August 8. Additionally, a 28-year-old man from Tully is charged with stealing food items from a Butler Street hotel on June 18, with a court appearance set for July 17.

Detective Sergeant Stu Jones, Officer in Charge of the Tully Criminal Investigation Branch, emphasized the ongoing efforts to combat property crimes in the area. “We are continuing to target property offenders through high-visibility and covert operations, to ensure the community is, and feels safe,” he stated. Sgt. Jones urges residents to enhance property security and report any suspicious activities to the police promptly.
