Queensland police are investigating a series of break-ins and attempted break-ins at high-rise apartments across Townsville, including properties in Douglas, Belgian Gardens and Townsville City. Investigators say offenders entered or attempted to enter units by scaling buildings and accessing unlocked balcony doors. Police allege an offender entered a fourth-floor apartment on Aplin Street in Townsville City between 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 6 and 2 a.m. on Oct. 7. An attempted break-in was also reported on Bundock Street in Belgian Gardens between Sept. 22 and Oct. 6 while a resident was away. The premises were secured, preventing entry. At about 1:20 a.m. on Oct. 8, offenders allegedly attempted to enter several units on Angus Smith Drive in Douglas before fleeing. Detective Acting Inspector Adam Golding said police were actively investigating and urged residents to lock windows, doors and balcony entrances, regardless of the floor on which they live. Police are seeking witnesses and CCTV footage showing people scaling buildings. Information can be provided to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
