Five Charged in Cairns Drug Crackdown

Queensland police have charged five people following a series of raids targeting the alleged supply of dangerous drugs in Cairns’ Safe Night Precinct. The investigations, conducted under Operations Yankee Ghostrail and Nightwhisper, began in August 2026.

Major and Organised Crime Squad officers, assisted by the Tactical Crime Squad and Dog Squad, executed search warrants at properties in Mount Sheridan, Cairns City, Cairns North and Parramatta Park on August 21 and 26. Police allege they seized methylamphetamine, MDMA, steroids, cocaine, cannabis and drug utensils, including about 460 grams of cocaine found beneath a sink at a Parramatta Park property.

A 24-year-old Mount Sheridan man faces multiple charges, including alleged drug trafficking and supply involving cocaine and MDMA. A 33-year-old Cairns City man was charged with possessing MDMA, methylamphetamine, steroids and other substances. Both are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court.

A 28-year-old Parramatta Park man was refused bail after being charged with possessing cocaine and contravening an order relating to access to electronically stored information. A 27-year-old man faces a similar information-access charge, while a 30-year-old Cairns North man was dealt with by way of an adult caution.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brad Grace said police would continue targeting people allegedly profiting from the illicit drug trade. The charges are allegations, and the matters will be dealt with by the courts.
