Five Charged After Townsville Chase

Queensland police have charged five people after allegedly tracking a stolen Ford Ranger across Townsville on August 25 before it was abandoned in Kirwan.

Police said officers saw the blue vehicle being driven dangerously at about 12:50 p.m. The vehicle was tracked to Dalrymple Road, where it was allegedly dumped. Five people who reportedly fled on foot were arrested shortly afterward.

A 16-year-old boy from Kelso was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, while a 14-year-old Kelso boy faces two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and charges relating to alleged drug possession and carrying a knife in a public place. Both are due to appear in Townsville Children’s Court on August 28.

A 21-year-old Garbutt woman was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and is due in Townsville Magistrates Court on September 9. A 24-year-old Vincent man and an 18-year-old Gulliver man were each charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, entering a dwelling with intent and attempted robbery. Their matters were scheduled for August 26 in Townsville and Mount Isa Magistrates courts, respectively. Police allege the vehicle was stolen from a Heatleys Parade property in Belgian Gardens between the night of August 24 and early August 25.
