Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree launching preparations for a monument to Hetman Ivan Mazepa in Kyiv, according to the president’s official website. The decree instructs the government to organize an open competition for the monument’s design and take the necessary steps to oversee its construction. Following the competition, authorities are expected to implement the selected project. The government and Kyiv City State Administration must also determine the monument’s location and prepare the surrounding space so it fits with Kyiv’s existing architectural environment. Zelenskyy first proposed installing a monument to Mazepa on Constitution Day. At the time, he identified Taras Shevchenko Boulevard as a possible site.
