Cardwell Police Target Dangerous Driving

Queensland police conducted a high-visibility road safety operation in Cardwell on August 8, recording 780 roadside breath tests, three roadside drug tests and issuing nine traffic infringement notices.

The operation formed part of Operation Interpose, a statewide initiative targeting dangerous behaviours including speeding, impaired and fatigued driving, mobile phone use, seatbelt offences and unroadworthy vehicles. Across joint operations on July 25 and August 8, police conducted 1,833 breath tests and nine drug tests, issuing 21 infringement notices.

The notices issued on August 8 included penalties for unsecured loads, defective vehicles, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving with an expired licence. Police also allege a 20-year-old Upper Daradgee woman was detected travelling at 115 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the Bruce Highway at Helens Hill. She received a $518 fine and three demerit points.

A 26-year-old Beaconsfield man was also issued a $345 notice after police alleged the load on a prime mover intercepted at Bilyana was not properly secured. Acting Sergeant Iain Russell said police would continue unpredictable, targeted patrols across the Townsville District.
