Konovalets’ Remains Return to Ukraine

The remains of Colonel Yevhen Konovalets were exhumed at Crooswijk Cemetery in Rotterdam during a ceremony marking their planned return to Ukraine, according to the Office of the President of Ukraine. The announcement was published on Aug. 11, 2026.

The repatriation effort was organized at the direction of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with participation from officials including Kyrylo Budanov, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Oleksandr Alfyorov of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Iryna Vereshchuk, Ukraine’s ambassador to the Netherlands, Andriy Kostin, representatives of Ukrainian organizations and veterans’ groups, members of the Plast organization, and clergy from the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

Konovalets’ remains will be temporarily reinterred at the National Military Memorial Cemetery in Ukraine. A farewell ceremony is planned at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv, with further details to be announced.
