Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said 13 people were killed and 77 wounded in Russian strikes across Ukraine over a 24-hour period, as he called for deeper cooperation with Serbia on humanitarian aid, infrastructure, energy and trade. Speaking alongside Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić on Aug. 8, Zelenskyy said missile and drone attacks had targeted energy facilities, railways, civilian businesses and frontline communities. He said 12 regions came under attack, with rescue crews continuing to extinguish fires and assess damage. Zelenskyy welcomed Serbia’s planned humanitarian assistance, particularly for healthcare and energy. The two leaders also discussed joint infrastructure and reconstruction projects involving ports and railways, as well as cooperation on food security and measures to prepare Ukraine for the winter. The Ukrainian president said the countries should accelerate negotiations on a free-trade agreement, with the goal of completing it by the end of the year. He also urged continued diplomatic efforts to secure what he described as a dignified peace and guaranteed security for Ukraine, while expressing support for Serbia’s path toward European Union membership.
