Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov discussed defense, economic cooperation and humanitarian support during a meeting in Kyiv on Aug. 6, according to Ukraine’s presidential office. It was Bayramov’s first visit to Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale invasion. Zelenskyy thanked Azerbaijan and President Ilham Aliyev for supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as providing energy and humanitarian assistance. The Ukrainian president briefed Bayramov on continued Russian strikes, the situation in the Black Sea and disruptions to grain corridors that Ukraine says threaten global food security. Bayramov expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people and described visits to a school, hospital and rehabilitation center in Irpin supported by Azerbaijan. He reaffirmed Baku’s commitment to further humanitarian aid, political support and stronger bilateral relations. The officials also discussed defense cooperation, including the Drone Deal, and economic ties in the energy, oil and gas, and agricultural sectors. They reviewed the implementation of agreements reached during Zelenskyy’s visit to Azerbaijan and discussed broader diplomatic developments.
