A devastating house fire occurred on Hope Island, leading to one fatality and severe injuries, as reported by Queensland Police on July 1, 2026. The incident, which unfolded late on the night of June 30, resulted in the declaration of a crime scene while investigations continue.

According to initial reports, emergency services rushed to a residence on Sickle Avenue around 11:45 pm after receiving reports of the fire. The house suffered extensive damage and the fire was promptly extinguished. However, the tragic event led to the loss of a 38-year-old man found deceased inside the property.

The fire inflicted life-threatening injuries on two other occupants, a 44-year-old man and an 84-year-old man, both of whom are currently receiving treatment at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. A 59-year-old woman also sustained non-life-threatening injuries during her evacuation from the burning house. Another 38-year-old man managed to evacuate without physical harm.

Police are urging anyone with information, especially those with relevant CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident, to come forward.
