Police in Maryborough have arrested and charged a 13-year-old boy following an incident involving threats with a knife. The arrest occurred on May 28 after officers responded to a distress call at a local business on Saltwater Creek Road. Upon their arrival, the young suspect was immediately taken into custody. Initial charges included attempting to enter premises with intent, going armed to cause fear, making threats, and possessing items linked to the commission of a crime. These proceedings are being handled under the Youth Justice Act. Further investigations led the Counter Terrorism Investigation Group and Maryborough Child Protection Investigation Unit to execute a search warrant on May 30. During the search, an electronic device was seized from the boy’s residence. This led to additional charges of preparation or planning to cause death or grievous bodily harm and possession or control of violent extremist material. The boy was remanded in custody and is slated to reappear in the Hervey Bay Children’s Court on June 5. Authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat, however, investigations are continuing.
