Queensland police have charged a 28-year-old Southport man over an alleged attempted sexual assault and robbery involving a 19-year-old woman near university accommodation on Parklands Drive.

Police allege the incident occurred at about 11 p.m. on May 22, when the man attempted to sexually assault the woman before taking her personal property. She was taken to hospital for medical treatment and support.

A crime scene was established near Science Road and Multimedia Lane. Detectives from the Gold Coast District Criminal Investigation Branch later executed a search warrant at a Southport address, where they arrested the man.

He has been charged with attempted rape, robbery with violence and possessing methylamphetamine. The man was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on May 25. The police reference number is QP2600980500.
