Police have launched an investigation into a fatal traffic accident that occurred this morning, May 11, on the Burnett Highway in Boonara. At approximately 10:30 AM, emergency services were summoned to the scene following reports that a cattle truck had collided with a tree.

The accident claimed the life of the truck’s driver, a 57-year-old man from New South Wales, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle. He sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the crash, the highway was closed in both directions, disrupting local traffic.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has called on anyone with dashcam footage or additional information that could aid in the investigation to come forward. As part of their ongoing commitment to enhance road safety, QPS highlighted Operation Interpose, which aims to increase police visibility and engagement with drivers across the state to curb dangerous driving behaviors.

Authorities continue to stress the importance of road safety, reminding the public of the severe risks involved with driving under the influence, speeding, or driving while distracted or fatigued. The enforcement of traffic laws is a part of broader efforts to reduce the fatalities on Queensland’s roads, but the police emphasize that road safety begins with responsible behavior from all road users.
